Rueben A. Kroells, age 81 of Waconia, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice House in Chaska. Funeral service held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the St. Paul’s Ev. Reformed Church (15470 CR 31) of Hamburg with Rev. Daniel R. Schnabel as officiant. Interment in the church cemetery. Visitation held Friday March 29, 2013 from 4 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the Johnson Funeral Home (141 E. First St.) in Waconia and also at the church Saturday one hour prior to the funeral. Serving as casket bearers Mike Herrmann, Mark Kroells, Jon Dose, Jared Dose, Tom Walter and Terry Walter.
Rueben Allen Kroells was born to William G. and Elisabeth (Siegle) Kroells on September 28, 1931 in Washington Lake Township, Sibley County. He was baptized on Oct. 18, 1931 by Rev. Otto Vriesen and confirmed on March 25, 1945 by Rev. Otto Vriesen at St. Paul’s Ev. Reformed Church of Hamburg, Minnesota. He attended Sibley County School. On June 7, 1952, Rueben was united in marriage to Alice Feltmann by Rev. Edward Oppermann at the St. John’s E & R Church in Bongards, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with four children, Roy, Dennis, Laurie and Linda. Alice passed away Nov. 25, 1993. On July 2, 1999, Rueben was united with Connie Walter by Rev. Hank Bowen at St. Paul’s Ev. Reformed Church. Rueben was a lifetime farmer, working on the farm as a child and then taking over the family farm in Hamburg. He had a registered Jersey herd that was well-known throughout the state. He enjoyed attending county and MN state fairs, showing or exhibiting his trophy cattle. During this time, he took on several other roles as a seed dealer and serving on the Washington Lake Township Board, and School Board. Rueben was a lifetime member of the E & R Church, member in the Men’s Brotherhood, along with being a Hamburg Lion. Rueben was a sports fan, watching the MN Twins, Vikings, Gophers and following the Hamburg Hawks. But the greatest pleasure was watching his grandchildren play ball. Other interests included dancing and listening to Old Tyme music, fishing, hunting, bowling and playing cards, Sheephead being his favorite.
Rueben was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great friend to all. He enjoyed traveling to many states and countries with friends he met through the seed company and always looked forward to making a new friend along the way. He had a knack of remembering names of family member and their interests and making everyone feel important. Rueben especially cherished time spent with his friends and family.
Rueben is preceded in death by his wife, Alice; parents, Wm G. and Elisabeth Kroells; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred Sr. and Bertha Feltmann, brother and sister-in-law, Wm P. and Marilyn Kroells; brothers in-law and sisters in-laws, Franklin Willemsen, Fred Jr. and Verda Feltmann, Dorothy Feltmann; and granddaughter Christina Ahrendt.
Rueben is survived by his loving wife, Connie Kroells of Waconia; children, Roy Kroells of Hastings, Dennis Kroells of Chaska, Laurie (Terry) Ahrendt of Mesa, Ariz., and Linda (Kevin) Wesley of Waterville, Minn.; grandchildren, Nathan Kroells, Alex Kroells, Allison Kroells, Brian Ahrendt, Nick Ahrendt, Kyle Wesley, Ryan Wesley and Laura Wesley; sister, Norma Willemsen of NYA; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vernon and Doreen Walter of Cologne; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Jim Luedloff of Waconia, Tom and Pam Walter of Cologne, Terry and Deb Walter of NYA, Gary Walter of Hamburg, Larry Walter of Cologne; very special friend Delores VanEyll of Waconia. Rueben will be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
