Obituary: Gordon Plocher

Obit PlocherGordon A. Plocher, age 82 of Mayer, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at his home in Mayer.

A memorial Service was held Saturday April 27, at 3 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia with Rev. Lucas Woodford officiating. A gathering of family and friends held 1 hour prior to the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Mayer.

Gordon A. Plocher was born Sept. 1, 1930, in Benton Township of Carver County, the son of Alvin and Hildegard (Schumann) Plocher. Gordon was confirmed in the faith at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer. Gordon enlisted in the United States Navy on March 31, 1949, and served until his Honorable Discharge on Jan. 13, 1953, at the United States Naval Receiving Station in San Diego, Calif. Gordon was united in marriage with Lois L. Gongoll on April 22, 1950, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hopkins.

Gordon received his certification in engineering from the Bell Core in Lisle, Ill., and worked as an engineer for the telephone company. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Watertown Fire Department for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and taking care of animals. Gordon cherished the time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gordon is preceded in death by his wife Lois Plocher, son Clarke Plocher, parents Alvin and Hildegard Plocher.

Gordon is survived by his loving family; daughters Pamela Plocher of Tyler, Texas, Phyllis (Carl) Groebner of Clements; son Mark Plocher of Delano; grandchildren Angela Groebner, David and Lori Groebner, Beth and Ryan Heifner, Robert and Amanda Groebner, Ashley (Odom) and Mark Grady, Taylor Odom, Justin Plocher, Cody Plocher; great-grandchildren Toriana and Dana Groebner, Kennedy, Alexandra, and Abigail Groebner, Noah, Alec, and Gavin Heifner, Gracie, Tyler, and Dylan Groebner, Preston, Carson and Addison Grady; friend Kim Plocher; sister-in-law Frances Hoese of Glencoe; step-sister-in-law Mary Moore of Delano; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
