Obituary: Ed Russek

Ed (Russ) Russek passed away on March 28, 2013, after a very short bout with cancer.

He was born Aug. 2, 1933, to Ignatius and Ann Russek of Watertown. He graduated from Watertown High School and then went into the Air Force for a four-year term. He was last stationed in New Jersey, where he met his wife, Betty Darmo. They made their home in Moorestown, N.J. for the last 57 years.

Ed Started out as a tech at RCA, but after putting himself through Drexel, he went on to work as a mechanical engineer for Honeywell, DW Supply and CM3, where he still was employed. He was a very meticulous man in everything he undertook, especially on the golf course. His ability to stay one under par earned him the name of “Birdman,” and he was fortunate to have shot a hole-in-one and also shoot his age of 78 last year.

Ed is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Mark (Karen) of Moorestown, N.J., and Marty (Katlin), of Tabernacle, N.J.; three grandchildren, Sean, Nikole and Brandi; two sisters, Dorothy (Donald) Bock of Monticello, Minn., and Barb (Dale) Emery of Orr, Minn; two brother-in-laws, Tom and Ralph (Sue); and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister and brother law, Lorraine and Gordon Stieve. He was laid to rest on Monday, April 1, at the Sweeney Funeral Home in Beverly, N.J. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert RD., Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
